Most people take pictures all the time; I am not interested in most pictures that most people take. As an exception, I’m usually interested in pictures that have me or my friends in them. William Davis’ photo blog fulfills this requirement, but I think I would love his pictures regardless. Will is a graphic designer living in Berlin - recent projects can be seen on his website - but the photos are a separate and cohesive endeavor.
Lots of the shots are genius, seizing on moments of serendipity or spotting bizarre anomalies that, even had I been there, I wouldn’t have noticed. Party pics avoid looking like Vice shoots, straightforward landscapes appear unfamiliar or strange, and the photos presented together form a strong, often nostalgic narrative. There is a certain sweetness and gentleness about the way Will treats subject matter that I find more generous than most photography, with or without my friends in it.
