While many contemporary theorists despise narrative as an architectural strategy, the theatrics of architecture are undeniable. Film enables architecture to express its counterpart, time. In this animated video by New York’s John Szot Studio and produced by Brooklyn Digital Foundry we get to see this counterpart. The ephemeral nature of urban development constantly reminds us that re-use and re-structuring can be a powerful medium. Besides animated narratives, John Szot Studio also uses drawings covered in handstyle, spray paint and wheatpaste to express structures’ inevitabilities.
